The trust has primarily been formed to refurbish, redevelop and extend the old St Margaret’s Church to create a multi-purpose community centre.

Although first and foremost we are looking at the re-use of the building, we decided not to opt for a building preservation trust but a community development trust as this offered us more flexibility to see the new building as a catalyst for regeneration in the area. The primary purpose of St Margaret’s Community Trust is therefore to provide care and support to people resident in the Ward End area, the geographical boundaries are shown below.

This broad definition of care and support is broken down in our Memorandum of Association as follows:

  1. Community Capacity Building

  2. To advance the education of children & young people and their parents and to provide activities for them

  3. Promotion of health, in particular but not exclusively by the provision of advice and information

  4. To provide advice, assistance, advocacy and training to those who are unemployed or facing hardship

  5. To provide and assist in the provision of facilities for recreational and other leisure time activities

  6. Working with residents, the local authority, voluntary and other organisations to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare
